SOFTWARE ist ein intermediales Kunstprojekt, das Musik mit Bildern und Poesie verknüpft. Die Vision für „SOFTWARE (die Sprache von morgen) basiert auf dem Science-Fiction-Roman „Syn-Code-7“ (Phantastische Bibliothek Suhrkamp Bd.67, 1982) und dem Langzeit-Projekt „ComputerKultur“ des Künstlers Michael Weisser.
Die musikalischen Werke erschienen als LP, MC und CD auf dem Label IC/DigItMusic - Hamburg/Bremen, im Vertrieb von da-music, Diepholz und auf internationalen Lizenz-Produkten in Japan, USA, Kanada, Israel, Korea, Frankreich, Russland.

Software war ein deutsches Musiker-Duo, das ausschließlich Elektronische Musik produzierte. Die Band wurde 1984 gegründet und bestand im Kern aus den beiden Künstlern Peter Mergener und Michael Weisser.
Nach der Auflösung von Software verliefen sich die Wege: Peter Mergener komponiert und spielt weiterhin elektronische Musik, während Michael Weisser als Medienkünstler aktiv ist.
